A number between 8 and 9

Last night, it was a beautiful sunshiney evening.  We felt celebratory, the air was nice and warm, an important report I had been working on all week was complete, and so, we head out for a supper out. During supper, I was introduced to a new number by my daughter.  She attests that there is a number between 8 and 9 that no else knows about.  It looks like this: and it is pronounced heref (a.k.a backlesek) : I thought I knew 8, I thought I knew 9, but I realized, in that brief session, that I had never really given any thought to what might be between them.

A snowy hill is a snowy hill no matter where it is.

Teeny icicles, not yet given enough time to get humongous, came into being in thin air this week. Out come the mittens, and the ritual of dressing that is reserved for this time of year. I am trying hard not to hate it. A big part of learning to like this season is by following in the crunchy ice encrusted footsteps of my kids.  Both got gear for enjoying snow this year.  Snowpants, warm boots and copious "pairs" of mittens (most of them still paired up, yeah!) all go on without complaint because they know that it all means one thing, fun in the snow is coming their way.  Even when we were waiting for a bus a little too long (for my liking) in what is in my mind a desolate place (a business park), they still managed to find the terrain magical and exciting to explore. As my knees knocked together down below, they frolicked high above on the ridge of a crusty snow bank.  I have to say, that despite the initial discomfort and bulkiness that I experience ...

Obama and Jack

Love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. -Jack Layton I so wish you and Jack could have been in office simultaneously.   Congratulations President Obama!

A simple meal

I was invited over to my neighbour's house the other day for Thanksgiving dinner.  Like many Thanksgiving dinners it took all day to prepare.  My neighbour had to go to the farm and pick the carrots and dig out the potatoes and she had to climb a ladder to get at the apples for the pie and she had to "borrow",  not   kill, a turkey from her other neighbour.  The house she lives in is amazing.  It has a loft that you have to climb a tree trunk to get to and it has a compost toilet. She invited me to go to her house for Hallowe'en, when the time comes.

Waiting for the next...

I'm waiting for the next ...development ...person ...inspiration ...story ...incarnation ...dream to make me see things in a whole new way. I'm not sure what, but I'm waiting for something.

A raining cloud

The latest version of a Hallowe'en costume that my son would like to be created for him (by magic I think) is a raining cloud.  A cloud that "you could fill with candies". I am thinking about that would be possible. I really am, even if the possibilties far outnumber my skills to implement them.  It is fun drawing plans in my head.

A Sign Waiting to Happen

Sometimes a random word comes floating into my mind and I think: "Hey! That would make a great name... for a restaurant (Kilojoule) /candy shop (Glucose)/ bookstore (Shelf Life)"...So many possibilities that would make a great idea way better.  What's the best store name you can think of?  What's the best one you've heard of?  Tell me what would you put on this sign up above if you had the chance.
